Andrew Greeley is a professor emeritus and director of social research at the University of Chicago. He received his D. Phil in philosophy from Oxford University and his D.Phil in religion from Cambridge University. In 1990 he received the American Sociological Association's highest honor, its Silver Gavel Award for distinguished contributions to sociology. In 1997 he received the American Academy of Religion's highest honor, its Award in Excellence in Theology. He has received honorary degrees from Luther College in Missouri and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
He is a distinguished fellow of the World Academy of Art and Science and a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
